Mike Warren. Delivery of Keer to Kent so Leighton - just called at the salt marsh hides - then to the Crag - quiet - one adult on guard, chicks had been seen but were presumably hot and sheltering in the nest cavity. Then to Foulshaw - Ospreys there but not clear, saw several Large Heath butterflies but had heard that Meathop is better - loads but constantly moving. Fortunately one stopped and I got picture and as a bonus found a Dog Vomit Slime Mould. Mike and Jean Warren. A very short walk at the Clitheroe quarry. Within 5 metres of each other, 5 species of orchid. People walk there all the time but I suspect that few see them. Only one Common Spotted and an excellent Twayblade, six or seven Bee Orchids many, many Heath Fragrant orchids and one Pyramidal - unusual on Limestone. ... See MoreSee Less

Mike Warren. CWT walk over Hutton Roof Crags. Got a few pictures as annotated. Saw one Dark Green Fritillary but no picture. Good sighting of Nostoc - a cyanobacterium which lives in the puddles (Kamenitzas) on the limestone pavements, as well as being a major cause of the so called "Blue-green algal blooms" in the Lakes as well as being the commensal in my favourite lichen - Peltigera. ...
