Mike Warren. Silverdale and Arnside Arts Festival, stewarding at Leighton for the Landscape Trust's photographic exhibition. Still open today (28th). Took some time off to go to the Crag for a public event. Decent views of Peregrine in the flowers - on reflection I think it was one of the juveniles. Good bunch of people turned up - delighted to see the birds. On the way back took a drone view of the estuary - apart from the river channel it was covered in salt from the drying out of the damp residue of the tide. ... See MoreSee Less

Mike Warren. Delivery of Keer to Kent so Leighton - just called at the salt marsh hides - then to the Crag - quiet - one adult on guard, chicks had been seen but were presumably hot and sheltering in the nest cavity. There is a fascinating podcast on Slime Moulds in the radio series, "In Our Time": www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m002691y ... See MoreSee Less

Only one Common Spotted and an excellent Twayblade, six or seven Bee Orchids many, many Heath Fragrant orchids and one Pyramidal - unusual on Limestone. ... See MoreSee Less

Mike Warren. CWT walk over Hutton Roof Crags. Got a few pictures as annotated. Saw one Dark Green Fritillary but no picture. Good sighting of Nostoc - a cyanobacterium which lives in the puddles (Kamenitzas) on the limestone pavements, as well as being a major cause of the so called "Blue-green algal blooms" in the Lakes as well as being the commensal in my favourite lichen - Peltigera. ...
