Mike Warren. Catch up from Saturday - butterfly walk lasted for ages so I had to leave but went back for what I missed - Scotch Argus and Brown Hairstreak. Both performed although only male BH so an earlier female picture included. ... See MoreSee Less

Mike Warren. Excellent day on butterflies. Butterfly Conservation local branch meeting at Leighton with interesting talks and then a field trip to the Knott. Had to leave before the top (where Scotch Argus and Brown Hairstreak was to be sought) but splendid time in Heathwaite with lots of migrant Painted Ladies and several Clouded Yellows - a less common migrant up here. Also, one eagle-eyed member of the group found a (battered) purple hairstreak fairly visible on a Hazel tree before moving to its regular Oak. The first thing we saw - a first for the Arnside side of the estuary - were several egg laying female Silver Washed Fritillaries. Will be back on the Knott soon! ... See MoreSee Less
